What do people in New Zealand mean by ‘cooking tea’?

Heard a Kiwi say they’re “cooking tea”? Don’t grab your teapot just yet. Here’s the real meaning behind this classic New Zealand expression.

Julian M., Dunedin

★★★★★

“Got the white tea as a gift. Really subtle — probably not for people who like bold flavours. But I like that it’s soft and easy to sip while working. No bitterness. Rally good on the cold days”

Renee W., Christchurch

★★★★★

“Nice and smooth. I’ve been drinking this in the mornings instead of my usual supermarket green tea. It's more expensive but there’s a noticeable difference in quality. Not too strong, which I like."

Min L., Auckland

★★★★★

“The Pu-erh is definitely an acquired taste and takes some getting used to. It's earthy and kind of funky — but I’ve grown to really enjoy it. I use to drink something similar with my grandpa so it's nice to think of him whenever I have it - really authentic!'

Penny., Auckland

★★★★★

"I was looking for a good gift for a friend that has everything when I came across Chan Cha Tea. I went for a Mandarin Puer gift box and it was gorgeous. Smelled really refreshing, even through the packaging! My friend loved it and now we have the odd get together with a cup of Chinese Tea as we try to cut down the coffee!'
